Otters Double Up On Wolves

The Sudbury Wolves were paid a visit by the Erie Otters on Friday night at the Sudbury Community Arena for the only time this season. The night marked the return of former Wolf Troy Lajeunesse who scored twice as the Otters topped the Wolves with a 4-2 final.

It was a dominant first period for the Sudbury Wolves who out-shot the visiting team 16-7 throughout the frame. Anthony Tabak opened the scoring for the Wolves as he connected with Nolan Hutcheson off of a great two-on-one play. With the goal, Tabak has now opened the scoring for the Wolves in the past two home games while Hutcheson’s assist comes as his second point in three games. The Wolves led after the opening period 1-0.

The Otters pushed back in the second period, applying pressure on the Wolves to close the gap. The familiar face of Lajeunesse erased the Wolves lead as he scored his first goal as an Otter to tie the game. The goal came as his first of two on the evening. Blake McConville and Kurtis Henry dropped the gloves late in the third, bringing the bench and crowd to their feet.

In the third, two quick goals from Otters’ Christian Girhiny and Stephane Patry, coming less than 30 seconds apart, allowed the visitors to gain momentum. With the Wolves net empty, Lajeunesse added a goal to extend the Otters lead to 4-1. Despite the deficit, the Wolves continued to press as Cole Candella scored his fourth of the season to cut the score to a 4-2 final with shots on net 35-30 in favour of the Wolves.

McConville was named the second star of the night and call-up Levi Siau recorded one point picking up an assist on Tabak’s goal.

The Wolves will now spend the weekend in the community before returning to action next Friday at home against the Flint Firebirds at 7:05pm.
