The Sudbury Wolves visited the Oshawa Generals for game 2 of the first round of the playoffs Sunday evening. The Generals came out swinging after dropping the first game to the Wolves on Friday and defeated the Wolves by a 5-1 final. Special teams were the Wolves kryptonite, as the Generals tied the series at 1-1.
Four consecutive penalties against the Wolves in the first period allowed the Generals to gain the momentum they needed to give themselves the lead. Jack Studnicka was the lone goal scorer of the period as he put the Generals up 1-0. Jake McGrath played an excellent period between the pipes as the Wolves were outshot 15-9.
Two goals from the Generals in the second period extended their lead to 3-0. Studnicka scored his second of the game when he beat McGrath on a two-on-one, going top shelf on the play. There was no love between the two teams, evident by the amount of extracurricular activities after the whistles that kept the referees busy. A short-handed goal from Kyle MacLean gave the Generals the 3-0 lead. The shots on goal at the end of the second were 27-14 in favour of the Generals.
The Generals continued their attack in the third period as Mason Kohn and Matt Brassard both added themselves to the scoresheet. On a rare power play for the Wolves, Dmitry Sokolov scored to put the Wolves on the board. The Wolves outshot the Generals 21-5 in the third period but it was too little, too late. The Wolves fell by a 5-1 final with shots on goal 35-32 in favour of the Wolves.
The Sudbury Wolves will now make their way back to Sudbury with the series tied at 1. The Wolves and Generals will face-off for Game 3 on Tuesday at the Sudbury Arena at 7pm. Tickets are on-sale now at the Arena Box Office, by calling 705-671-3000 or online at greatersudbury.ca/tickets.
