The Sudbury Wolves enjoyed some excellent offensive production from their young players this season including Dmitry Sokolov who finished 4th overall in rookie scoring in the OHL.
Sokolov had the most goals among OHL rookies as the Russian sniper scored 30 times this season. Sokolov also recorded the most power play goals among all rookies in the OHL with 10 markers. Dmitry is the first Sudbury Wolves rookie to score 30 goals since the 1996-97 season when Norm Milley achieved this. Dmitry is one of only four Sudbury Wolves rookies to achieve 30+ goals in their rookie season. Other players who achieved this feat include:
- Pat Verbeek – 1981-1982 season – 37 goals – 3rd round draft pick of the New Jersey Devils in 1982
- Craig Duncanson – 1983-1984 season – 38 goals – 1st round draft pick of the LA Kings in 1985
- Derek Armstrong – 1991-1992 season – 31 goals – 6th round draft pick of the New York Islanders in 1992
- Norm Milley – 1996-1997 season – 39 goals – 2nd round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres in 1998
It is scary to think how many goals Dmitry could have had this season if not for the numerous posts and cross-bars that he dented with his pro-shot/release. The Wolves have a great one-in-the-making in Dmitry Sokolov.
