Spirit Overtake Wolves

The Sudbury Wolves continued their Western Conference road trip Saturday night with a stop in Saginaw to face the Spirit. The Wolves started out strong for the second night in a row, but could not hold their lead as they fell 5-2 to the Spirit.

Ryan Valentini put the Wolves on the board first midway through the opening frame with Kyle Capobianco and C.J. Yakimowicz picking up the assists. The Wolves took their 1-0 lead into the dressing room after the first 20 minutes. Shots on goal were tied 7-7 after the first.

Hayden Hodgson tied things up for the Spirit on the power play early in the second period. Keaton Middleton added to the Spirits score to give them the go ahead goal just minutes later to take a 2-1 lead. Mike Davies extended the Spirit score late in the second to take a 3-1 lead over the Wolves heading into the dressing room after forty minutes. The Spirit out-shot the Wolves 17-8 in the second period.

Macauley Carson tried to get the Wolves going in the third as he scored on the power play to bring the Wolves within one; however that was as close as they would come. Hodgson scored his second of the game to make it 4-2 before Max Grondin scored an empty net goal to give the Spirit a 5-2 victory. Final shots on goal were 34-23 in favour of the Spirit.

The Wolves will look to close out their Western Conference road trip Sunday in Windsor as they face off against the Spitfires at 2:05pm. Listen to the live play-by-play on with Bryan Cooper.
