The Sudbury Wolves will host Wolves Alumni in a celebration of the 45th anniversary on the weekend of December 8th, 9th and 10th. The Alumni will kick off the weekend with a celebration game where they will be playing in a fundraising charity game against the Habs Alumni on December 8th, 2016 at 7pm at the Sudbury Arena.
“Since the team changed hands shortly before training camp began, there has been significant interest from Alumni in re-igniting relationships with former teammates,” said Andrew Dale, Alumnus and VP Marketing + Development with the Wolves. “We wanted to find an appropriate game or weekend to invite alumni back to the arena this season, back to the city to celebrate the 45th anniversary. With a little bit of luck and good timing, we learned about Habs Alumni coming to town and there may be an opportunity to play them. It only took a few phone calls and the line-up filled up.”
“The Sudbury Wolves have been part of the community for the better part of the city’s history in various forms of Junior, OHA, NOHA, etc… they have represented Canada and won championships,” said Dario Zulich. “We value the players who have built the foundation of the history and culture of Wolves Hockey and support the development of an Alumni group that can continue to contribute to our community.”
Shortly after the Sudbury Community Arena opened in 1951, the hockey leaders of the day organized an game on January 9th, 1952 between the Montreal Canadiens and the Sudbury Wolves in the arena. While we acknowledge the 45th anniversary this season, the club keeping a view to the 50th anniversary season.
