Wolves Battle Back Against Generals
The Sudbury Wolves traveled to Oshawa Sunday evening to wrap up a busy 3-in-3 weekend. The Wolves were looking to wrap the weekend up with a win after splitting a home and home series with the Eastern Conference leading Hamilton Bulldogs. The Wolves were successful as they defeated the Generals with a 5-3 victory.
The Generals got on the board first 12 minutes into the opening frame on a goal by Mitchell Vande Sompel. Five minutes later, Darian Pilon tied things up for the Wolves, before scoring again 20 seconds later to give the Wolves their first lead of the game. Less than a minute later Anthony Cirelli scored for the Generals and tied the game back up. The Wolves trailed shots on goal 7-6 after the first.
Shane Bulitka scored his first career OHL goal midway through the second frame to give the Wolves back their lead. The Generals had a number of solid scoring opportunities in the period, but Jake McGrath shut the door.
The Wolves were able to extend their lead halfway through the final frame when C.J. Yakimowicz scored to give the Wolves a 4-2 lead. With three and a half minutes later, the Generals pulled within one on a shorthanded goal by Domenic Commiso, however Yakimowicz sealed the victory for the Wolves on an empty net goal with 25 seconds remaining to give the Wolves the 5-3 victory. Final shots on goal were 36 to 25 in favour of the Generals. Darian Pilon was named the first star of the game for his two goal performance, while Macauley Carson picked up three assists in the game en route to being named the second star.
The Wolves are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Sault Ste. Marie to take on the Greyhounds at 7:07pm.
