Wolves Blanked by Battalion

The Sudbury Wolves traveled to North Bay for a Thursday night match-up with the Battalion. It was an important game for both teams as they are fighting for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East. This game was also the first of the home and home series between these two clubs. After a close first period, the Battalion opened up the score and defeated the Wolves 4-0.

Jake McGrath played a great first period as he made 15 saves for the Wolves. Brett Hargrave put the Battalion on the board midway through the opening period to give them the early lead. Shots on goal after the first were 16-5 in favour of the Battalion

The Battalion added two more goals in the second to take a 3-0 lead after forty minutes. Brett McKenzie and Zach Poirier were awarded with the Battalion’s goals. The Battalion led shots on goal 31-14 after two periods.

The Wolves made every effort to get back in the game in the final frame. They had a number of great chances, but couldn’t beat the Battalion goaltender. With three and a half minutes remaining, the Wolves pulled their goalie for the extra man; however it wasn’t enough to defeat the Battalion as they fell by a final score of 4-0. Adam McMaster added the empty net goal in the dying seconds. The Wolves out-shot the Battalion 9-8 in the third; however the Battalion led shots on goal by a 39-23 final.

The Wolves and Battalion will return to the confines of the Sudbury Arena Friday night to complete the home and home series at 7pm. Tickets are on-sale now at the Sudbury Arena Box Office, by calling 705-671-3000 or online at greatersudbury.ca/tickets.
