Wolves Come Out On Top

It was the rebound game everyone wanted as the Sudbury Wolves worked their way to a 3-2 win over the Kingston Frontenacs Saturday night as they wrapped up a busy week at home. Kyle Rhodes and Dmitry Sokolov who were the two goal-scorer’s for the Wolves, with Rhodes picking up his sixth of the season and Sokolov marking his seventh and eighth.

The leadership team lead the charge tonight with overager Rhodes putting up a three-point night with one goal and two assists. Michael Pezzetta set the tone for the evening early on as he dropped the gloves with Liam Murray just twelve seconds into the game. Despite this being the first meeting between the two squads there was no love lost as it was a chippy one.

Kyle Rhodes opened the scoring with a shot from the point to put the Wolves up 1-0. Midway through the frame, Tyler Burnie scored for the Fronts on the power play to tie the game at one. Minutes later, Sokolov scored his first of the night sniping one top shelf to make it 2-1 for the Wolves. That was it for the first period as the Wolves took the lead into the intermission with shots on goal 10-9 in favour of the Frontenacs.

Another power play goal for the Frontenacs less than five minutes into the second tied the game at two as Linus Nyman gave Marshall Frappier no chance. After numerous solid chances from the Wolves, Dmitry Sokolov netted his second of the game with just 22 seconds remaining in the period. The Wolves took their 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

Three goals turned out to be enough for the Wolves as the Frontenacs could not solve Frappier in the third period. The team held on to take a 3-2 victory with final shots on net 33-29 in favour of the Frontenacs.

Rhodes’ play earned him the second star of the night while Sokolov was granted first star honours. Sokolov was also voted the Subway’s Hardest Working Player of the Game by the fans through the Wolves App.
