The Wolves opened up the playoffs on the road Friday night with game one in Oshawa. The Wolves came out firing and never looked back as they took a convincing 5-2 win over the Generals and now pick up home ice advantage.
The first period was a wild and fast paced affair. Drake Pilon and Robbie Burt dropped the gloves early with Pilon coming out on top. Alan Lyszczarczyk put the Wolves on the board at the midway point of the first period on the powerplay. Four minutes later Dmitry Sokolov scored on the powerplay to extend the Wolves lead. The Wolves headed to the dressing room up 2-0 after twenty minutes. Shots on goal were 13-11 in favour of the Generals.
Drake Pilon extended the Wolves lead early in the second period to make it 3-0. The Generals got on the board at the 13 minute mark of the period on a goal by Serron Noel. The Wolves weren’t finished in the period as Michael Pezzetta put in a rebound with a minute remaining to make it 4-1 for the Wolves after forty minutes. The Wolves led shots on goal 25-23.
In the third, the Wolves and Generals exchanged goals. Macauley Carson tipped in Zach Wilkie’s shot to extend the Wolves lead to 5-1. The Generals however weren’t done as Kenny Huether scored to close the gap to 5-2. The Wolves took the game by a 5-2 final over the Generals. The Generals led shots on goal 35-31.
Jake McGrath was excellent in net stopping 33 shots and was named first star in the win, while Dmitry Sokolov picked up a goal and an assist for second star. Michael Pezzetta was named third star.
The Wolves now lead the series 1-0 and will face off against the General in Game #2 on Sunday in Oshawa at 6:05pm. Listen on mixlr.com/sudburywolves.
