Wolves Drop Close Sunday Matinee to Bulldogs
The Wolves battled hard against the Eastern Conference leaders, the Hamilton Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon, but they couldn’t quite sneak their way past as the Bulldogs took the game by a 3-2 final. Mario Culina played an outstanding game stopping a total of 46 saves and received the third star of the game
The first period was a physical one between the two squads with a total of three fights in the frame. Dawson Baker and Ben Garagan, Doug Blaisdell and MacKenzie Entwistle, and Macauley Carson and Justin Lemcke all dropped the gloves with each other to set the tone. Matthew Strome scored first with a goal late in the period when he capitalized on a rebound to make it 1-0 for the Bulldogs.
Just 30 seconds into the second, Nicholas Caamano beat Culina to lengthen the lead for the Bulldogs to 2-0. The Wolves showed their tenacity as they continued to fight to get back into the game. David Levin put the Wolves on the board as he scored a power play goal from Cole Candella and Dmitry Sokolov to cut the Bulldogs lead in half. Minutes later, Sokolov tied the game at 2 after Shane Bulitka made a nice pass to Kirill Nizhnikov who sent it to Sokolov to poke home. The teams went into the intermission tied at 2.
In the third period, Brandon Saigeon crashed the net to score the game winning goal for the Bulldogs. With the Wolves net empty, Sokolov had an excellent chance to tie it back up but could not get past Kaden Fulcher. The Bulldogs skated away with a 3-2 final with final shots on net 49-25 in favour of the Bulldogs.
