Wolves Drop Match-up to Colts

The Sudbury Wolves traveled down Highway 69 Thursday to take on the Barrie Colts at the Barrie Molson Centre. After a flurry of goals early in the second period, the Colts took control of the game skating away with a 10-3 victory over the Wolves.

David Levin, Nolan Hutcheson, and Cole Candella were the three skaters for the Wolves who found a way past the Colts’ netminder, Kai Edmonds. Levin, Hutcheson, and Candella’s goals all came as their first on the season. Edmonds played a solid game for the opponents, as he fended 36 shots.

The Sudbury Wolves opened the scoring  in the first after they gained momentum off a power play. Following the man-advantage, David Levin connected with Quinton Byfield and Blake Murray to make it 1-0. Colts’ OA, Lucas Chiodo, added two goals in the first to give the Colts a 2-1 lead heading into the intermission.

Three quick goals in just over a minute into the second allowed the Colts to take the momentum from the Wolves. The flurry of goals for the Colts came in the second frame from Tyler Tucker, Matej Pekar, Lucas Chiodo, and Ben Hawerchuk with two. Chiodo’s marker completed his first career OHL hat-trick.

Offense continued for the Colts in the final frame as Jason Willms, Sam Rhodes, and Ryan Suzuki extended the lead to 10-1. Despite the deficit, the Wolves showed their tenacity as they fought through to the end. Hutcheson’s goal came with just under four minutes remaining in the period as he connected with Blake McConville. With under a minute remaining, Candella scored a power play goal to end the game.

Final shots on net were 36-27 in favour of the Wolves.
