Wolves Drop OT Match To Petes

The Sudbury Wolves welcomed the Peterborough Petes to the Sudbury Community Arena Friday night for the final time this season. Chandler Yakimowicz had a break-out game notching two goals, however it wasn’t enough as the Wolves fell in overtime 5-4.

Seven minutes into the opening frame, NIKITA KOROSTELEV scored off of a rebound to give the Petes a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, DAVID LEVIN tied things up at 1 after beating Petes goaltender DYLAN WELLS top shelf. The Wolves cranked up the intensity after scoring a short-handed goal on a Peterborough power play with less than three minutes to go. MICHAEL PEZZETTA set up the play when he sent a wicked shot to the net that CJ YAKIMOWICZ slid in behind the Petes goaltender. Just over a minute later, MACAULEY CARSON gave the Wolves a 3-1 lead off a rebound from another hard drive by PEZZETTA. PEZZETTA and KYLE CAPOBIANCO both picked up two assists in the first period.

It was all Petes in the second as they scored two unanswered goals from SEMYON DER-ARGUCHINTSEV, which came just one minute apart. Despite the Petes’ goals, the Wolves kept the shots even at 11 apiece. The game was tied at 3 after the first two periods.

The Wolves played a hard fought third period. With his second of the game YAKIMOWICZ scored to give the Wolves the lead 7:54 into the third period. However, it didn’t take long for the Petes to respond and tie the game at 4. With the buzzer ending the period in a tie, the teams headed to overtime to determine a winner.

It only took one minute of overtime to solve the game as STEVEN LORENTZ scored for the Petes who skated away with a 5-4 overtime victory. Final shots on net were 34-30 in favour of the Petes.
