Wolves Fall 6-4 To Knights in Close Match-Up

The defending Memorial Cup Champion London Knights visited the Sudbury Arena for the only time this season on Friday night to take on the Wolves. Despite overcoming a 2 goal deficit to tie the game in the first, the Wolves were unable to defeat the Knights, falling by a 6-4 final.

The Wolves got off to a slow start, allowing the Knights to score two unanswered goals from MAX JONES and JOSH NELSON in the first four minutes of the game to trail 2-0. Powerplay opportunities and a goal from DAVID LEVIN sparked the Wolves to get them back into the game. Minutes later, SHANE BULITKA scored a beautiful goal showcasing his puck moving skills to the fans. The Wolves went into the dressing room tied 2-2 after the first period with shots on goal 11-6 in favour of the Knights.

Despite being out-shot once again in the second period, the Wolves and Knights exchanged goals on two occasions. KYLE CAPOBIANCO ripped one past Knight’s goaltender EMANUEL VELLA, challenging him to a two on one to give the Wolves their first lead of the game. The Knights responded with a goal from SAM MILETIC two minutes later to tie the game once again. Former Knight RYAN VALENTINI walked in on his former team to score a beautiful goal and put the Wolves up 4-3. There were more answers from the Knights as MAX JONES scored his second of the game to tie it back up at 4-4 after 40 minutes.

Both teams went back and forth with chances in the third with ZACK BOWMAN and VELLA both making incredible saves to keep the game tied. ROBERT THOMAS stripped VALENTINI of the puck at the blueline to give himself a breakaway beating BOWMAN to give the Knights back their lead. With less than a minute left in the third CLIFF PU scored on the open net to solidify the win for the Knights. The Wolves fell by a 6-4 final with shots on goal 49-20 in favour of the Knights. Captain KYLE CAPOBIANCO was named the third star of the game.

Wolves Hockey continues on Saturday as the Wolves continue their double-header weekend when they play and host their division rivals, the Mississauga Steelheads. Game time is 7:00pm. Saturday’s game is sponsored by GoodLife Fitness. Tickets are on-sale at greatersudbury.ca/tickets or at the Sudbury Arena Box Office on Saturday beginning at 4:00pm.
