Wolves Announce December Player of the Month Award Winners

The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce their players of the month award winners for the month of December.

TRAVELODGE SUDBURY COMMUNITY PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Sudbury Wolves veteran forward MATT SCHMALZ has been named the TRAVELODGE SUDBURY COMMUNITY PLAYER OF THE MONTH for his outstanding contribution to the City of Greater Sudbury for the month of December. SCHMALZ participated in numerous community events over the month, including a school visit to Churchill Public School and the Sudbury Wolves Christmas Hockey Camp. He also participated in a number of media events in town as he helped launch the PaWES program as well the Big Nickel Tournament. The Dunnville native also attended Lasalle Secondary School with the Greater Sudbury Police to speak with students in their Sport & Healthy, Active Living Program about the importance of teamwork and leadership. The Sudbury Wolves are very proud to have Matt representing the organization on and off the ice!

MOLSON CANADIAN 3-STAR AWARD
Sudbury Wolves newcomer, MIKKEL AAGAARD has been awarded the MOLSON CANADIAN 3-STAR AWARD for the month of December for his strong play. The overage import forward joined the Wolves in late November after being traded to the Nickel City from the Niagara IceDogs. In 11 games during the month, Mikkel scored 4 goals and added 6 assists. The Denmark native was awarded for his strong play in Guelph where he notched one goal and added two assists en-route to being named the first star of the game. He was also named the second star of the game in Sudbury’s 2-0 shut-out over the Erie Otters just prior to the Christmas Break. The Sudbury Wolves would like to congratulate Mikkel on his outstanding play in December.

REG WILKINSON MEN’S WEAR SCHOLASTIC PLAYER OF THE MONTH
The REG WILKINSON MEN’S WEAR SCHOLASTIC PLAYER OF THE MONTH for November is 1st year forward BEN GARAGAN. Ben is currently attending LaSalle Secondary School where he is enrolled in three university level courses, including human development, chemistry and tech design. The North Bay, ON native has maintained an 83% average, while balancing school and hockey. Garagan was selected by the Wolves’ in the 5th round of the 2015 OHL Priority Selection. The Wolves wish to congratulate Ben on his hard work in the classroom and on the ice!

QUIZNOS HARDEST WORKING FORWARD
The QUIZNOS HARDEST WORKING FORWARD OF THE MONTH is rookie forward ALAN LYSZCZARCZYK. LYSZCZARCZYK joined the Wolves as a Free Agent this past summer and has been one of the Wolves’ best players to date this season. He currently leads the team offensively with 31 points in 38 games, including 10 goals. Alan has an extremely strong work ethic both on and off the ice, and is getting more comfortable and confident with every game. The Sudbury Wolves would like to thank Alan for his hard work and commitment and look forward to him continuing his development with the Wolves.

QUIZNOS HARDEST WORKING DEFENCEMAN
The QUIZNOS HARDEST WORKING DEFENCEMAN OF THE MONTH is defenceman, ZACH WILKIE. Wilkie was acquired from the Niagara IceDogs in late November as part of the trade with Mikkel Aagaard and has been an excellent acquisition for the Wolves. Since joining the Wolves, the Illinois native has seen his offensive numbers skyrocket as he has notched 9 points in 15 games. Wilkie always gives his best effort on the ice and as a veteran on this young Wolves team; he tries to lead by example. The Sudbury Wolves would like to thank Zach for his hard work this season.

SKATER’S EDGE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Goaltender TROY TIMPANO is the winner of the SKATER’S EDGE PLAYER OF THE MONTH for December. After missing a month and a half of the season due to injury, Timpano returned to the net in early December with something to prove. In 8 games in December, the Pickering native had 3 wins and 4 losses with a goals against average of 3.79 and save percentage of .901%. Timpano is one of the top goaltending prospects for the 2016 NHL Draft and will be looking to continbue his impressive play down the stretch. The Wolves would like to congratulate Troy on his tremendous play so far this season!
