Wolves Announce February Player of the Month Award Winners
The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce their players of the month award winners for the month of February.
TRAVELODGE SUDBURY COMMUNITY PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Sudbury Wolves goaltender TROY TIMPANO has been named the TRAVELODGE SUDBURY COMMUNITY PLAYER OF THE MONTH for his outstanding contribution to the City of Greater Sudbury during the month of February. The veteran goaltender participated in numerous community events over the course of the month, including a visit to the winning Home Depot Backyard Rink to play shinny with neighborhood kids. He also attended a dinner with a couple of lucky Cub Club winners at MIC. Most recently, Troy participate in the Coach4Food practice to help reward the Cedar Park Red Wings Atoms for collecting food for the Sudbury Food Bank. The Pickering native is now is his third season with the Wolves. The Sudbury Wolves thank Troy for his contributions on and off the ice!
MOLSON CANADIAN 3-STAR AWARD
Sudbury Wolves overager, PATRICK MURPHY has been awarded the MOLSON CANADIAN 3-STAR AWARD for the month of February for his outstanding contribution to the team. MURPHY scored 4 goals and added 8 assists through 12 games this past month. He also had four multi-point games and has already surpassed his point totals from last season with the Western Conference champions, the Erie Otters. The Wolves acquired Murphy from the Otters last August prior to the start of training camp. The 20-year-old defenceman has been moving between offence and defence this season to help with this young Wolves’ squad, providing strong leadership at both positions. The Sudbury Wolves would like to congratulate Patrick on his outstanding play in February.
REG WILKINSON MEN’S WEAR SCHOLASTIC PLAYER OF THE MONTH
The REG WILKINSON MEN’S WEAR SCHOLASTIC PLAYER OF THE MONTH for February is rookie. Brandon is currently attending LaSalle Secondary School where he is enrolled in three courses which include Career Studies, Tech Design and Manufacturing Technology. The Mississauga, ON native has maintained a 75% average, while balancing school and hockey. Bastasin was originally selected by the Wolves’ in the 7th round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. The Wolves wish to congratulate Bastasin on his hard work in the classroom and on the ice!
QUIZNOS HARDEST WORKING FORWARD
The QUIZNOS HARDEST WORKING FORWARD OF THE MONTH is rookie forward DMITRY SOKOLOV. SOKOLOV was selected by the Wolves 3rd overall in the 2015 CHL Import Draft. The Omsk, Russia native sits third in team scoring with 43 points in 60 games this season. The 6’1, 208lb forward is a top-rated prospect in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft this summer and is one of the Wolves hardest working players on and off the ice. In 12 games during the month of February, Sokolov notched 7 goals and added 4 assists. The Sudbury Wolves would like to thank Dmitry for his hard work and commitment and look forward to him continuing his development with the Wolves over the next couple of seasons.
QUIZNOS HARDEST WORKING DEFENCEMAN
The QUIZNOS HARDEST WORKING DEFENCEMAN OF THE MONTH is veteran defenceman, KYLE CAPOBIANCO. The Mississauga, ON native was selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the 3rd round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft last summer. CAPOBIANCO provides strong leadership on the blueline to the young Wolves’ defensive corp. He also contributes offensively for the Wolves as he sits fifth in team scoring with 38 points in 60 games. February has seen his best offensive numbers this season as he notched 11 points in 12 games. The third year defenceman is always trying to improve his play and works incredibly hard both on and off the ice. The Sudbury Wolves would like to thank Kyle for his hard work this season.
SKATER’S EDGE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Overage forward MIKKEL AAGAARD is the winner of the SKATER’S EDGE PLAYER OF THE MONTH award for February. Since being acquired by the Wolves in late November, the Denmark native has regularly contributed to the Wolves’ offense. The Wolves’ leading scorer continued his strong play in February as he notched at least one point in all except two of the Wolves contests during the month as well as had four multi-point games. Through 12 games in February, Aagaard notched 9 goals and added 5 assists to bring his season totals to 23 goals and 25 assists in 56 games. With Mikkel’s exceptional experience in the OHL and on the international stage, he has been able to provide leadership to the young Wolves and help set a strong example. The Wolves would like to congratulate Mikkel on his tremendous performance during the month of February!
Presentations for the Player of the Month awards will begin this Friday night as the Wolves host the Owen Sound Attack for the one and only time this season at 7:00pm.
