Wolves Close Regular Season with Win

The Sudbury Wolves closed out the regular season on Sunday afternoon in Kingston taking on the Frontenacs.  The Pack jumped out to an early lead and went on to win by a final score of 5 – 1.

Forward DEREK SCHOENMAKERS (MICHAEL SGARBOSSA, SAMUEL SCHUTT) opened the scoring late in the first period to make it 1 – 0 after the first period.

Midway through the second frame, SGARBOSSA (SHOENMAKERS, JOHAN MATTSSON) scored on the powerplay to make 2 – 0.  The Frontenacs cut the lead in half before SGARBOSSA scored his second powerplay marker in the period to make it 3 – 1 at the second intermission.

Captain MIKE MACDONALD (NATHAN PANCEL) scored his 8th goal of the year at 8:57 of the third period to open the lead to 4 – 1, and SGARBOSSA (PANCEL) scored his third goal for the hat-trick at 18:34 to give the Wolves the 5 – 1 win and 102 points for himself on the season.

Starting netminder JOHAN MATTSSON had a great game making 42 saves on the afternoon, while Igor Bobkov turned away 21 shots.

The Wolves will now turn their focus to the playoffs as they will open their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals in Brampton on Friday, March 23, 2012.  The series will return to Sudbury on Tuesday, March 27 and Wednesday, March 28.  Tickets are now on sale here.
