It was another big night for the Sudbury Wolves Friday as they claimed a huge 7-1 victory over the North Bay Battalion at the Memorial Gardens. A number of Wolves players had multi-point games including Blake Murray who scored a hat-trick and Nolan Hutcheson and David Levin who each had three points. Murray, Levin, and Hutcheson earned first, second, and third stars of the game, respectively. Final shots were 42-21 in favour of the Wolves.
Shane Bulitka opened the scoring for the Wolves as he buried one past Christian Purboo from the slot to record his fourth goal of the season. A strong first period continued for the Wolves as Blake Murray hit the open net top shelf on the power play to give the pack a 2-0 lead over the Battalion. The tic-tac-toe style goal resulted in assists for Levin and Robinson. Wolves leading goal scorer David Levin extended the pack’s lead with a beautiful goal shot off the post. Battalion newcomer Mason Primeau scored late in the period to put the Battalion on the board.
A slower start to the second period forced the Battalion to lay on the pressure in an attempt to cut the Wolves 3-1 lead. Drew Wawrow had a solid chance after he knocked in his own rebound, but the goal was reviewed and deemed no goal. Late on the Wolves powerplay, Hutcheson beat Purboo blocker side with a quick snapshot to extend the Wolves lead to 4-1.
The boys kicked it into overdrive firing off goals left, right and centre in the third. Nolan Hutcheson landed his second goal in the final frame while Blake Murray also polished off two beautiful goals to complete the hat trick. Luukkonen played an exceptional game making 20 saves.
