The Sudbury Wolves travelled to Peterborough Saturday to kick-off a two game road swing to wrap up the regular season. The pack picked up their 43rd win of the season which matched the club record for the second most wins in franchise history. Adam Ruzicka netted two and Drake Pilon tallied one to lead the Wolves to a 3-1 final. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen had a near perfect performance between the pipes making 33 saves on 34 shots.
In the first period, both teams got off to a slow start. Through 20 minutes of play, neither the Wolves nor the Petes could beat their opposing netminders to open the scoring. The Petes outshot the Wolves 18-8 but could not get anything past Luukkonen who stood tall in net for Sudbury.
In the second period, the Wolves took at early lead scoring just over one minute in. Adam Ruzicka beat Hunter Jones with a beautiful wrap around goal to give the pack a 1-0 lead on the Petes. Five minutes later, Drake Pilon notched his 10th of the season on a wrist shot that was sent in from the high slot to put the Wolves up by two. With minutes winding down in the period and the Petes down by two, the game turned physical when Cole Fraser and Drake Pilon dropped the gloves. After 40 minutes of play, the Wolves led 2-0.
In the final frame, Liam Kirk put the Petes on the board and cut the Wolves lead by one. A physical game turned into a number of pushing matches between the two squads as the Petes fought to make the comeback. As time started to wind down, Hunter Jones got the nod to head to the bench for the extra attacker. Adam Ruzicka then tossed the puck into the empty net to secure the win for the Wolves.
