Wolves Acquire Lipanov from Colts

The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce the acquisition of 18-year-old left handed centre Alexey Lipanov from the Barrie Colts in exchange for Dmitry Sokolov and a conditional Owen Sound 3rd round selection in 2022.

Lipanov was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the third round of the recent 2017 NHL Entry Draft and selected by the Barrie Colts 44th overall in the 2016 CHL Import Draft. In 35 games with the Colts this season, the Russian native has 11 goals and 18 assists.

“We are pleased to bring in a younger skilled import player like Alexey into the program. His appearance in the CIBC CANADA RUSSIA series in November and his high draft selection last summer is testament to his ability,” said Rob Papineau, Vice President of Hockey Operations & General Manager of the Sudbury Wolves. “The entire Sudbury Wolves Organization would like to thank Dmitry for his time in Sudbury and his contribution to the Sudbury Wolves. Dmitry scored 98 goals for the team wearing his number 98 and we wish him all the best in the balance of the season with the Colts.”

Lipanov is expected to arrive in Sudbury Wednesday afternoon in preparation for the team’s road game and his return appearance against the Barrie Colts on Thursday at 7:30pm.  Fans will have their first chance to see the new players in action when the team hosts the Mississauga Steelheads and the return of Reagan O’Grady on Friday at 7:05pm.
