Wolves Defeat Rangers 5-3

The Sudbury Wolves opened up their 2012-13 Home Exhibition Schedule Friday night with a hard fought 5-3 win over the Kitchener Rangers.

TRENT CULL’S Wolves came flying out of the gate with three first period goals by NATHAN PANCEL, JAKE RYAN, and RAY HUETHER.

Ray continues to impress this preseason, as his goal was his second in as many nights. Ray also added an assist in tonight’s contest to give him a total of three points this exhibition season.

The Rangers however would not go away quietly as they responded with a big second period with goals from CURTIS MEIGHAN and BRANDON LESWAY to draw within one heading into the third frame. The Wolves held the edge in shots 23-14 after two periods.

The Rangers attempt at completing comeback was shutdown early in the third as the Wolves responded with back to back goals from JACOB HARRIS and JUSTIN SEFTON to extend the lead to three. Rangers forward JOSH STERK scored the lone third period goal for the Rangers.

Overage JOEL VIENNEAU was strong in goal for the Wolves this evening as he turned away 19 out of the 22 shots he faced.

The Wolves are back in action at home next Friday September, 14th vs the Soo Greyhounds to close out their home exhibition schedule. Tickets for the game can be purchased at the Sudbury Arena Box Office. This game will once again be sponsored by Jungle Gym Gymnastics.
