The Sudbury Wolves were in Owen Sound Saturday night to visit the Attack for the only time this season. Following a tough first period, the Wolves were unable to recover as they fell by a 6-2 final to the Attack.
In the first period, the Attack got on the board first less than five minutes in on a goal by Jonah Gadjovich as he beat Wolves goaltender Jake McGrath. C.J. Yakimowicz tied things up for the Wolves at the midway point of the period in his return from suspension. The Attack then scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead after the first period of play. Goal scores for the Attack included former Wolf Matt Schmalz.
The Attack extended their lead to 5-1 early in the second period on Gadjovich’s second goal of the game. Darian Pilon scored on the power play with just under 2 minutes to go in the second; however the Attack scored one more goal to make it 6-2 with less than 30 seconds remaining. Shots on goal after two periods of play were 40-14 in favour of the Attack.
The Wolves came out with much more fight in the third period as they out-shot the Attack 9 -7 , however could not beat Emanuel Vella as they fell by a 6-2 final. Final shots on goal were 47-23 for the Attack.
Saturday’s game marked the midway point of the season for the Wolves who will now break until after Christmas, when they return to play the North Bay Battalion on December 29th in North Bay. The Wolves will return to action at home on the 30th as the host the Guelph Storm for the only time this season at 7:30pm.
