Hounds Take Game Two

The Wolves opened up their grueling weekend stretch which see’s them play 3 games in 3 days tonight with a hard fought 5-4 loss at home to the hands of the Soo Greyhounds. With the loss the Wolves now trail the Greyhounds 2-0 in BELL CHALLENGE CUP SERIES.      

Prior to the game, the Voice of the Wolves, STEW KERNAN, was honoured for 10 years with the club as their play-by-play announcer.

DANNY DESROCHERS would open up the scoring for the home team at the 9:45 mark of the first period when he redirected a point shot from CHARLIE DODERO past Greyhounds net minder MATT MURRAY.  DYLAN STAPLES would respond for the Greyhounds with less than four minutes to play in the frame to tie the game up at one heading into the break.  The Wolves would outshoot the Greyhounds in the first by a 19 to 10 margin.

It didn’t take long for the Greyhounds to pull ahead in the second, as JARED MCANN would put the puck past Wolves net minder TAYLOR DUPUIS 1:30 into the period to give the visitors their first lead of the evening. MCANN would go on to score his second of the period on the power play when he fired a point shot past DUPUIS to put the Hounds up by two. NICK HALAGIAN would extend the Greyhounds lead to three at the 16:25 mark of the second period when he banked a shot off of Wolves forward CHAD THIBODEAU. The Wolves however would not go down without a fight as team captains FRANK CORRADO and JOSH LEIVO would score back to goals with under two minutes to play in the period. The Wolves back-to-back goals would cut their deficit to one heading into the second intermission. The Wolves held the edge in shots in the second frame by a 16 to 10 margin.

The third frame remained scoreless until the 10:50 mark of the period when NICK BAPTISTE erased the Wolves three goal deficit as he banged home a rebound to tie the game up at four with nine minutes to play. RYAN SPROUL would go on to spoil the Wolves comeback efforts as he fired home the game winner from the point with 5:06 remaining in the third period. The Wolves would outshoot the Greyhounds for the third straight period by a 20 to 9 margin.

The Wolves will now head south for a pair of back-to-back games on the weekend. Saturday’s contest will see the Wolves faceoff against the Niagara Ice Dogs who currently set 4th in the Eastern Conference with an impressive 15-7-1-1 record. After the game the Wolves will hop back on the bus and head to Brampton for an afternoon contest against the Battalion. The Wolves will be back in action at home on Friday, November 30th when they face-off against the number one ranked team in the OHL and fourth ranked team in the nation the Owen Sound Attack. The game will gives Wolves fans the opportunity to see 2009 OHL 1st overall pick Daniel Catenacci who currently sits tied for 5th in league scoring.
