The Wolves were at home Tuesday evening to take on the West Division leading Greyhounds in the makeup game from the Home Opener, which was postponed due to fog.
Both teams brought tremendous physicality and determination into Tuesday’s game. In the first period, chances were noted at both ends of the rink, however it was the Wolves who came out with the lead after 20 minutes of play. Wolves’ forward JACOB HARRIS found the back of the net only a few minutes into the period. DANNY DESROCHERS and RAY HUETHER received assists on the play. The Hounds answered late in the period with a goal of their own when MICHAEL BUNTING netted one to tie things up at 1 goal apiece. On the ensuing faceoff, CONNOR CRISP picked up his own rebound and outworked the Greyhounds defenceman. He would slip it past the goaltender to make it 2-1 in favour of the Wolves. The Hounds outshot the Wolves 14-10 after the first 20 minutes.
The Wolves continued to press and battled for yet another exciting period of hockey, however it was the Greyhounds who marked first in the second. DAVID MILLER of the Soo Greyhounds notched one to tie up the game. Late in the period the wolf pack dug deep and managed to find success when CRAIG DUININCK ripped one on goal and DOMINIK KUBALIK found the juicy rebound and snapped it past MATT MURRAY. DUININCK continues to be a key component to the Wolves offense and has averaged over 1-point/game since the Wolves acquired him from the Sarnia Sting in early November. 3-2 was the score for the Wolves after 40 minutes of action.
In the third, the Greyhounds got into some penalty trouble and the Wolves capitalize to take 2 goal lead. That would be all the Wolves would need to clench the victory. DOMINIK KUBALIK, KEVIN RAINE and DOMINIK KAHUN combined for the insurance goal. Goaltender FRANKY PALAZZESE was outstanding between the pipes and continues to impress as the year progresses.
The Wolves defeated the Greyhounds by a final score of 4-2. The Wolves are now on a 6-game winning streak and have won 8 of their last 10 games. DOMINIK KUBALIK had an outstanding game and potted 2 goals to lead the Wolves to victory.
